Our company became the supplier of auxiliary steel structures for most of the pipes in the Kelvin incinerator for the customer The Babcock & Wilcox Company from the USA. These are fully galvanized steel structures with a total weight of 25 tons.
Kelvin is a waste to energy (WTE) plant now under construction at Sandwell West Midlands, just outside Birmingham in the UK. When operational, it will process 395,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste from households and businesses from UK landfills and is expected to import waste from abroad. The remaining waste will be used to generate 44 MW of base load electricity, which meets the needs of more than 95,000 households.
The Kelvin plant, owned by Enfinium, will use state-of-the-art steam generation and combustion technology from Babcock & Wilcox Renewable (B&W). Working with Acciona as an engineering contract (EPC) contractor, the plant is equipped with the largest waste incineration boiler B&W has ever supplied (at the time of installation).
